Mainspring, an ancient invention

Mainspring exists since the fifteenth century (approx. 1488). Back then, it was mounted on many mechanisms, especially in watchmaking sector. This represented a key evolution in this field since clocks previously used gravity to function, which means that it was impossible to consider designing a portable instrument because of the weight.

SPRING TYPE

Compression spring

We manufacture cold-coiled compression springs.

Wave spring

We manufacture wave springs to meet simple or complex requirements.

Tension spring

We manufacture tension springs to meet simple or complex requirements.

Torsion spring

We manufacture torsion springs to meet simple or complex requirements. They can be manufactured from standard machines or specific tools.

Wire form spring

Wire forms are used for a wide variety of applications. Pins, hooks, clips, electrical contact parts, and more, they can be manufactured from standard machines or specific tools.

Flat spring

Flat springs are made using special tools. They can be produced following their morphology on a radial or linear press. RHD has seasoned experts on both types of machines.

Sub-assembly spring

RHD can offer its customers the option of pre-assembly on machine during production in order to shorten the assembly stages and achieve productivity improvements. We are also able to assemble our part with a part supplied by the customer.

Our offer

Experienced spring manufacturer

The fame of RHD group as a mainsprings manufacturer is not to be any more demonstrated in this “sharp" domain, because it evolves in it since almost half a century. Georges Huon, founder of the group RHD, chose it as his first activities. Numerous industrialists turn from now on to our solutions, which they approve by a large majority because of the added value which we bring, the concern of the detail which we show during the process of development of our solutions, the quality of the councils and the supports proposed to the prospects.

The strategy of the group relies on a policy of continuous investment, an orientation towards buoyant markets, in particular the car industry and cosmetic, the implementation of state-of-the-art production tools – solutions computerized mainly-, more implication on the world market. These assets allowed us to raise our reputation on the local plan that international. The group RDH is at present an actor of size in the design of all types of industrial springs.

Mainspring, a centerpiece for many mechanisms

Mainspring operates as follows: it stores energy when it is stretched and releases it, through a gear set, once it is released. Usually, it is in the form of a metal strip wound onto a wheel, and made from hardened steel. To generate the tension, the spring must be wound with a wheel – it is the role of the crown found on watches – or a removable key – present on most clocks, music boxes and mechanical toys . Any appliance that operates with a mainspring is fully autonomous and requires no other energy source (electrical or other). However, it is important to “go back" regularly since the regularity of the energy returned depend on it.

RHD, specialist precision springs

RHD is a company specializing in the design of precision springs. Mainspring falls into this category and are widely used in this field of technology. On this spring in particular, the R & D department of the RHD group is working on new alloys, combining steel, stainless steel, bronze and copper for its design, to offer this part better durability. Indeed, mainspring is generally characterized by its low tolerance to corrosion, so it breaks easily. Note that in RHD, all prototypes are designed on demand, according to specifications drawn up by the team, which makes use of advanced software and machinery at all stages of production.

Robots, shock absorbers, bottles of perfume, lighters, watches, industrial machines, are examples of the very numerous goods that necessitate one or several small springs to function correctly. Springs play an essential yet often neglected role in a wide range of objects for everyday use. Due to the various kinds of stresses to which springs are subjected and their small dimension, springs making processes need to meet the highest quality standards. Cutting-edge fields, for example automotive, pharmaceutical or high-tech industries attach great importance to the springs used in their products.
